As a Summer 2024 ECPSI/OSI Program Assistant, I played a crucial role in supporting Early College Program Summer Institutes (ECPSI/ECPOSI) students and professional staff. My responsibilities included tracking attendance, coordinating with Health Services and Residence Life staff, and performing additional administrative duties as needed. The ECPSI was a residential pre-college program at SAIC for high school students, offering for-credit visual arts courses in one-week, two-week, and four-week full-day sessions from late June through early August. The ECPOSI, SAIC’s online pre-college program, took place in two-week, half and full-day sessions from late June through mid-July. I had direct interaction with students, Continuing Studies (CS), and Residence Life staff and was closely engaged in day-to-day operations. This was a full-time, temporary, onsite student employment position from early June to August 16th, with a weekly schedule of Monday-Friday and occasional evening hours.
Continuing Studies Department at SAIC
The Continuing Studies department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) offers a range of non-degree courses for individuals of all ages and skill levels. The programs include:
1. Adult Programs: These courses cover various disciplines, including painting, drawing, photography, design, and more. They are designed for personal enrichment, professional development, or preparation for advanced studies.
2. Early College Program (ECP): Aimed at high school students, the ECP allows them to earn college credit while exploring their artistic interests. It includes courses during the school year and intensive summer programs.
3. Children's Programs: These courses introduce younger children to the world of art and design, fostering creativity and foundational skills in a fun and supportive environment.
4. Teacher Programs: These are designed for educators looking to enhance their teaching practices and integrate new art techniques and theories into their classrooms.
5. Certificate Programs: For those seeking a more structured study without committing to a full degree, SAIC offers certificates in various disciplines, such as graphic design, interior design, and fashion.
Overall, the Continuing Studies department provides a broad spectrum of opportunities for individuals to explore and expand their artistic abilities, whether for personal fulfillment or professional growth.
