The 56th Annual Conference of the International Visual Literacy Association will be held at Hepner Hall, San Diego State University, from October 6-9, 2024, with an additional online conference day on November 4, 2024. I will be presenting my Aesyhusion project as a research paper in this conferance. The conference, hosted by the Center for Visual Literacies at SDSU, will explore the theme "Illuminating Perspectives through Critical Visual Literacy," focusing on how visual texts can reveal power dynamics within sociocultural contexts. The event will include in-person and virtual presentations, allowing participants to engage in discussions about personal and collective meaning-making, agentive practice, and the transformation of sociopolitical realities through visual literacy.
San Diego State University, a public research institution established in 1897, serves as the venue for this esteemed conference. The Center for Visual Literacies at SDSU aims to enhance education through visually integrated pedagogy and to utilize visual texts for qualitative research. The conference schedule features a welcome event on October 6, full conference days with provided meals on October 7-8, optional tours on October 9, and a virtual session on November 4.
The conference encourages proposals on topics like personal and collective meaning-making, agentive practice, restorying dominant narratives, and critiquing sociopolitical realities. Scholars, artists, educators, and activists are invited to submit their proposals by April 15, 2024, to join this transformative dialogue on visual literacy. The conference is co-chaired by Marva Cappello, PhD, and Jacqueline Huddle, who look forward to fostering a collaborative and insightful event.
