Virtual Topologies: An Evening in Motion

So excited for being part of the New Media Architecture(s) exhibition! An exciting and diverse lineup of artists involved in this event, including: Rose Ansari, David Bennett, Blinn & Lambert (Nicholas Steindorf & Kyle Williams), Peter Clark, John Colette, Audrey Coombe, Lisa Crafts, Johannes DeYoung, EVPRAXIS, Laura Harrison, Yoon Chung Han, Maiza Hixson, Adam Hsieh, Cheng Guo, Woohun Joo, Lisa Kereszi, Nikita Kolbovskiy, Young Joo Lee, Jérémy OURY, Maya Perry, Han Qin, Andrey Rylov, Minka Stoyanova, Tamiko Thiel, Clea T. Waite, Xi Wang, Xiaotong Wen, Yufan Xie, and Weidi Zhang.

I would like to personally thank our jury and selection committee: Rebecca Xu (Digital Arts Committee Chair), Victoria Szabo, Jan Searleman, Melentie Pandilovski, Gustavo Rincon, and Guest Curator, Maiza Hixson. I would like to additionally thank David Moke, Director of Programming for the Denver Theater District and Director of Night Lights Denver. The tireless efforts of this incredible group of people have helped make this exciting event possible.

For those of you who will be in Denver for the event, the ACM SIGGRAPH Digital Arts Committee is hosting a celebratory social gathering to coincide with the projection event on the Daniels & Fisher Tower, on the evening of July 28. Details for that event are published on the official ACM SIGGRAPH conference site. We will have tables reserved at the nearby Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, and David Moke will be on site to lead tours of the projection apparatus, from a unique viewing perspective. Please let us know if you plan to attend — we would love to connect with you in Denver!

We will be in touch in the coming week/s as publication materials and documentation come together. For now, I just wanted to extend another warm welcome and thanks for being part of this exciting event.

About the event: PRESENTATION Virtual Topologies: An Evening in Motion Description: A celebratory social gathering to commence "New Media Architecture(s): Virtual Topologies in Urban Spaces," an exhibition of moving-image and new media artworks presented on architectural scale video displays and projection-mapped upon the Daniels & Fisher Tower in the downtown Denver Theater District. The artists in this exhibition will address the affordances and complexities of pervasive media display in the urban landscape. Participating artists find themselves in the mixed company of paid advertisements and programmed marketing, their works randomly activated within a public display system, amidst an assortment of unrelated, countervailing content. Their brief aesthetic interruptions will offer moments of reflection, humor, and repose amidst an onslaught of marketed programming, as well as opportunities to consider place-making and the social relations of pervasive media topologies in the contemporary urban space. This exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Denver Theater District, Night Lights Denver, and ACM SIGGRAPH Digital Arts Committee.
